EQUIVALENT READING LEVELS
Here is an approximate equivalency between the Fountas and Pinnell reading levels we use in the classroom and the AR levels (often found in libraries.) Remember, children are most successful when they are reading at their independent reading level, when the text is just right. It is challenging enough to where they can apply the new reading strategies and skills we are learning in class, but not too challenging, where it reaches that frustrational level. Scholastic Bookwizard also offers a text leveling guide on their website that translates levels among DRA, Lexile, Grade Level Equivalent, and Guided Reading (or Fountas and Pinnell Levels.) It can be accessed through the links on the sidebar.
