National Park Program
A special National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Military Pass provides no-cost, year-round access to national parks and other federal recreational lands for service members and their families. Available to US military members and their dependents in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard, as well as most members of the US Reserves and National Guard. Proper military ID is required, and passes can be obtained in person at Federal recreation sites that charge entrance or standard amenity fees.
Operation Purple Camp
War affects everyone not just the service member, but the spouse and children as well. As an organization dedicated to serving military families, the National Military Family Association (NMFA) recognized the need for more resources to support military children. In 2004, the Operation Purple® Summer Camp Program, for ages 7 to 17, was created as a free summer camp to give children a unique experience where they can learn coping skills, build a support network of peers, and share in some carefree fun that they need and deserve. For more information, visit the website.
Camp Corral
Camp Corral is a free, one-of-a-kind summer camp for children of wounded, disabled or fallen military service members. Although any child from a military family is eligible, registration priority is given to children of wounded, disabled or fallen military service members. Camp Corral is free of cost to children ages 8-15 of wounded or disabled military families. Families pay only for transportation to and from the camp. Applications can be completed online. All questions should be directed to the camp's email: campinfo@campcorral.org.
Engineering Camp
Each summer elementary, middle and high school students attend programs throughout North Carolina to discover what engineering is all about. Visit the website to learn more about these camps for rising 3-5 grades, 6-8 grades, and 9-12 grades.
