Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)
Harnett County Schools takes the health and safety of all students and staff very seriously. As a district, we are working with the Harnett County Health Department, Harnett County Health Department, Harnett County Emergency Services, and Harnett Health to create and distribute important information about the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
It is important that our district stakeholders are aware of the actions necessary to prevent the spread of any respiratory viruses/illnesses to others. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), you should:
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
When necessary, Harnett County Schools will provide up-to-date information regarding the COVID- 19 disease to our main website and social media platforms. Also, additional details regarding COVID-19 can be found at www.cdc.gov/COVID19 or at the Harnett County Health Department website at http://www.harnett.org/health/.

Harnett County Middle and High Schools' Transition to Five-day Instruction
March 15, 2021
LILLINGTON, NC – During the March board work session, the Harnett County Board of Education announced the return to five-day in-person instruction for middle and high school students. Middle school students in grades 6-8 will return to five-day in-person instruction on Tuesday, April 13th. High school students will begin five-day in-person instruction on Monday, April 19th. Elementary schools will continue to transition to a five-day in-person schedule on March 22nd. For the remainder of the 2021 school year, Harnett County Schools will transition to the following in-person schedule:
2020-2021 TRANSITION TO IN-PERSON INSTRUCTION SCHEDULE
NC Pre-Kindergarten is currently operating on a five-day schedule
If families prefer, students may continue with five days of remote instruction.
Social distancing within classrooms will be attempted but cannot be guaranteed in schools once on a five-day instructional schedule.
During holidays and teacher workdays, there will be no remote or in-person instruction.
This schedule is pending enacted legislation or executive order by the Governor.
FRIDAY, MARCH 19
No in-person or remote instruction.
MONDAY, MARCH 22
Students in grades Kindergarten through fifth grade will resume five-day instruction.
Students in Pre K-5 Self-contained EC classrooms will resume five-day instruction.
FRIDAY, MARCH 26
Becomes regular in-person instruction day for K-5
Becomes a “B” group day for students in grades 6-12.
Previously scheduled as a Remote Learning Day (SRL).
THURSDAY, APRIL 1
Early release day for all students.
FRIDAY, APRIL 2 through MONDAY, APRIL 12
Spring Break for all students.
No in-person or remote instruction during these dates.
TUESDAY, APRIL 13
Students in middle school (grades 6-8) return to 5-day in-person instruction.
Students in 6-8 Self-contained EC classrooms will resume five-day instruction.
MONDAY, APRIL 19
Students in high school (grades 9-12) return to 5-day in-person instruction.
Students in 9-12 Self-contained EC classrooms will resume five-day instruction.
FRIDAY, MAY 7
Becomes a regular in-person instruction day for all Pre-k through 12th grade face-to-face students. This was previously scheduled as a Remote Learning Day (SRL).
