    Face to Face Class

A new Face to Face class of Driver Education will be from April 19-30, 2021, from 2:45 to 5:45 each day. Due to the backlog of students needing the class due to COVID-19 and the safety requirements to maintain a safe environment, only 75 students ranked oldest to youngest were accepted to the December class. Because of a carryover of students who were not accepted to the December and February classes, there are limited slots available for the April class.

Slots available at the following high schools:

         Harnett Central 67

Overhills HS Full (75 slots will be available for the June class)

         Triton HS 74

         Western Harnett HS 67

Once again, due to the backlog of students needing the class due to COVID-19 and the safety requirements to maintain a safe environment, if we receive more applications than we have available slots at each respective high school, students will be ranked oldest to youngest to determine acceptance to the class. If you are interested in applying, please click on the application tab and choose the school where you would take the class. Once all applications have been reviewed, you will be contacted by either email or phone by April 14th if you were accepted.  Students not accepted will be the first students given the opportunity to take the next class in June.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Basic Information
At its August 5, 2013 meeting, the Harnett County Schools Board of Education approved
a $55 charge for any student who takes Driver Education. Due to a significant reduction in State
funding for the program, the General Assembly provided a provision in law to allow school districts
    to impose this charge.

Students must be at least 14 years, 6 months old, to register for a Driver Education class.
Students are required to complete 30 hours in the driver education classroom and 6
    hours behind the wheel instruction.

Driver education classes are scheduled throughout the school year and during the summer.
Behind the wheel, driving is conducted after school, on Saturdays, and during the summer.
The State created an additional provision for 2015-16, allowing students to obtain a waiver
if they feel they are unable to pay the fee associated with driver education. For further information, please click on the Parent Letter tab and view the Frequently Asked Questions for Parents section.

If you still have questions after viewing the Frequently Asked Questions section, please contact Chris Mace, Director, at cmace@harnett.k12.nc.us or 910-814-3444.
