What is G Suite for Education?
Harnett County Schools G Suite for Education is an integrated communication and collaboration solution, hosted by Google and managed by HCS. G Suite provides the ability for Harnett County students and staff to communicate, store files and collaborate on documents, spreadsheets, and presentations in real time from school or home, all within a secure “closed campus” online environment. Harnett County Schools takes security and privacy of student information very seriously. Harnett County Schools G Guite is not accessible by anyone outside of HCS, so your student will be able to work and collaborate in a safe and secure online environment.
Each student in Harnett County has a Gmail account which connects them with the G suite of collaboration tools. Student accounts are added free and secure.
Classes use an instructional management system that is part of the G suite called Google Classroom. Teachers can post assignments, videos, announcements, and links to documents within Classroom. Students can keep track of what is due on the assignments page and begin working with just a click. All of the student assignments will automatically be filed into folders in their Google Drive to help keep them organized. Out sick, no problem, students can just log into Classroom and see exactly what their classmates did at school that day. Google realizes that parents/guardians are instrumental to student success at school so Classroom provides email notifications to parents/guardians so they can stay involved and help to motivate their students. Parents will be able to sign-up to receive daily or weekly email digests of their student's progress, upcoming work and class announcements.
CG Suite offers a restricted YouTube experience for students. Students have a place to store class projects/movies that they create and teachers can upload video lessons into the HCS G Suite YouTube Channel.
Google Hangouts is Google's free video-conferencing tool that is available for teachers to use as part of G Suite for Education. Teachers can use Hangouts to connect with experts around the world and bring rich learning experiences to their class.
Google Meet is Google's free video-conferencing tool that is available for teachers to use as part of G Suite for Education. Teachers can use Meet to continue connecting with their students and facilitate remote learning. This includes the ability to record meetings and Livestream. Recording meetings allow teachers the opportunity to post the recorded lesson to Google Classroom for students to access at a later time.
G Suite allows students to create and edit documents, spreadsheets, and presentations right in their browser. G Suite's share feature allows multiple people to work at the same time and every change is saved automatically.
Student work is saved in a cloud based Google Drive. Students can access their files from any device and share them instantly. Students no longer have to worry about saving files on a flash drive or email attachments making working between school and home easier.
