  • Here at HCMS I teach lots of students Theatre Arts,  the appreciation of the Theatre Performances as well as the Daily Raider News Broadcast.  Some of the topics we cover in each grade level are:

6th Grade Creative Dramatics: Working with puppets, reading plays, acting in small class plays, and playwriting.

7th Grade Acting and Vocal Development, Radio Dramas, Imrovisation, Playwriting, Speeches, Acting in plays, Technical Theatre

8th Grade: Acting and Technical Theatre, Theatre Safety, Tools, Designing Building & Painting Sets, Directing, Costume Design, Careers in Theatre

Daily Raider: Anchoring the show, creating videos and segments, writing news stories, interviewing students and teachers, videoing school activities, editing videos and adding titles and music

We also work on Self-Confidence, Respect, Patience, Hard Work, Giving and Taking Constructive Criticism!  I encourage all students to act on stage and also help off stage.  We do utilize worksheets, google classroom videos and class dojo as well.  Students will receive a more detailed Syllabus at the beginning of the semester with performance dates on it.  They are required to participate in the evening performances because this is our final exam.  Please make every effort to allow them to participate.   They learn so much from seeing all the elements come together and depend on one another.   Students will also receive a photo release form, for my class. I love to document the progress of our work with pictures; if I can not see their face it is hard for me to tell who is who.

Thank you for allowing me the pleasure of teaching your Child!  I am excited to work with all my Students and hope they will come to class with an open mind ready to work!

MSA School Leadership from Campbell University BS Dance and Theatre Education from ECU

Mrs. Rita Perry

Mrs. Rita Perry

As a child, Rita Perry was interested in all the arts: dance, baton, piano, band, and singing at church.  As a Farmer's and Librarian's daughter she learned what hard work was, leadership, and how to work with others.  It also impressed upon her how important education is.

A career in middle school theatre arts education as a career was a dream come true.  It allows her to be creative and introduce theatre to students that are changing faster than the wind.  She has been educating students of Harnett County in Theatre Arts or Dance Education for the last 24 years and at Harnett Central Middle for 22 of those years.  Every day is a new chance to help students grow, and that is what she loves about her job.
