Hello, I am Melanie Taylor.  I am a Harnett County native.  I attended South Harnett (when it was an elementary school), Anderson Creek (when it was a middle school) and graduated from Western Harnett High School.  I am proud to support and work for Harnett County Schools.  I followed in the footsteps of my mother who was also a teacher for Harnett County Schools.  I used to grade her papers and teach school to my dolls and anyone who would sit still.  I began my teaching career in 1996 at Anderson Creek Primary teaching first grade.  After 12 years, I decided to be trained as a Reading Recovery teacher and I have been teaching reading for 10 years.  

Being a Reading Recovery teacher allows me to work closely with those students in first grade who struggle the most in reading and writing.  I provide individualized instruction based on the needs of the student in order to help them to meet grade level expectations.  This is a very rewarding job and I love watching the students grow as readers and writers.
