Susan Fisher

Welcome!  I am Mrs. Fisher. This is my 16th year at Lillington Shawtown with our SCMC students.  This year, Mrs. Hayes and I will be teaching the SCMC/SED Remote Learning Class for the 2020-21 School Year.  We are excited about the technology areas we will be able to introduce to students and incorporate into their learning this year.  This year will bring changes in their classroom setting from what they previously experience, but we look forward to leading them through the new learning setting and helping them improve their skills with technology as they grow and develop new academic skills in other areas.  We are excited about this year starting and look forward to working with our returning and our new students as we enter this new year.

A little abot me:  I was raised in Lee County and graduated from Lee Senior High School. I graduated from Greensboro College in 1985 with a degree in Special Education with concentrations in MR/LD for grades K-12.  During the past 35 years, I have worked with students and adults with disabilities in classrooms and residential settings ranging from a K-7 combined resource & self-contained class, Junior High EC Resorce, Cape Fear Community College and Fayetteville Technical Community College, served as the Qualified Mental Retardation Professional/Habilitation Specialist for a group home serving children with severe/profound disabilties, and Southeastern MH/DD/SAS as Director of Cape Fear Respite before taking time off from teaching to take care of my family.  After returning to work, I served as Social Worker, then Director of Social Services and Admissions and Assistant Director for residential facilities.  My family left my husband's hometown of Carolina Beach and returned to my hometown and have lived in Sanford since then.

Because I missed being in the classroom and working with students,  I returned to teaching.  Since November 2005, I have been with the SCMC classroom at Lillington Shawtown, first with grades K-5 and then with grades 3-5.  This year, our class will be the year-long Remote Learning Class for SCMC and SED Classes.

Mrs. Hayes and I are excited about working with your child this year and look forward to seeing the students' excitement with their learning and the challenging new experiences as they develop new skills and their confidence in their own skills grow.  It is important to us that your child feels he or she is part of the classroom and school community.  Our classroom is a family.  Your child will be welcomed in the FishHayes classroom family.  We look forward to working with you, the parents, as we collaborate to support your child throughtout the year.

Please contact me any time you have questions or concerns.  Contact information has also been added to the Class App while was provided to parents of our students before school started.
