Hello! Welcome to Kindergarten! My name is Sommer Gentry and I am proud to be a product of Harnett County Schools. I grew up in Harnett County and went to Boone Trail elementary and Western Harnett Middle and High School. I am in my 12th year of teaching Kindergarten at Lillington-Shawtown Elementary School. I began my teaching career at Lillington-Shawtown 15 years ago in the Preschool Disabilities classroom. I received my bachelor's degree from Campbell University in Family and Consumer Sciences with a concentration in Child Development. I began my journey as a lateral entry teacher and began teaching at LSES in 2007. During that time, I received my Licensure to teach Birth-Kindergarten through North Carolina Central University. I was honored to be LSES teacher of the year in 2012.
My husband, Chip Gentry and I own a Falconry and Abatement Company here in Harnett County, in which we enjoy training birds of prey and teaching others about the sport. We have 4 wonderful children and one grandchild. Our life is busy and full of adventures. I enjoy baking, exercising, fishing, and going to the beach and mountains.
I look forward to working with you and your child this year as we learn, play, explore, and most of all...HAVE FUN! Teaching is a passion of mine and I strive to meet, if not exceed standards when it comes to teaching your child.
Love and hugs, Mrs. Gentry
