Lieutenant Kevin B. Matthews, Retired
Greetings,
My name is Lieutenant Kevin B. Matthews. I am a lifelong resident of northwest Harnett County, North Carolina. I am retired after 23 years of full-time law enforcement experience from the Harnett County Sheriff's Office. I have also spent 21 of those years as a law enforcement trainer certified by the State of North Carolina Training and Standards Division. I have trained at the community college level, Basic Law Enforcement Training and numerous continuing education and in-service levels, specializing in Law Enforcement Driving, Rapid Deployment, Law Enforcement Firearms and Law Enforcement Instructor training. After spending many years as a part-time law enforcement trainer, I felt the call to share my education and experiences with high school students in an effort to provide them with an educated view of actual law enforcement and not necessarily what is regularly viewed in today's media outlets. I enjoy the challenge of delivering this information in a format that enlightens and challenges the student to understand "real" law enforcement and the many different dynamics of today's law enforcement profession.
I am currently in my 5th year here at Harnett Central High School, where I teach Public Safety 1, Law and Justice 1 and Law and Justice 2. The most rewarding aspect of my tenure here is bringing real life Law Enforcement awareness to the students that I am privileged to teach. They spend the entire semester with a uniformed officer and to a person, they all leave with a new perception of real Law Enforcement and the role that officers play in the safety and service to our communities.
