Norma O'Quinn

My name is Norma O'Quinn and I am a lifelong member of Harnett County.  My husband and I are both former graduates of Western Harnett High School.  I came back to teach for Harnett County in 1995 after I graduated from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Mathematics Education (1994).  I had several wonderful math teachers while I was a student at WHHS and they were the main reason that I chose to go into the field of education.  I have been teaching for 18 years.  My husband and I have been married for 27 years and have 4 children.  My oldest daughter is a graduate of NCSU and my son is a sophomore at NCSU.  We have two younger daughters, age 13 and age 11.  I took several years off while my children were very young and enjoyed every minute that I was able to be home with them.  My youngest daughter was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in June of 2016.  She was 6 at the time.  She is currently out of treatment and in remission.

I love teaching math and helping students to see the vast possibilities that a mathematics background could afford them.  In 2019, I was named as Western Harnett High School's Teacher of the year.  In 2006, I was awarded the honor of the North Carolina Teachers of Mathematics Outstanding Secondary Mathematics Teacher for Harnett County.  I have taught all levels of math at WHHS and am currently teaching AP Statistics, Honors Math 3, and Foundations of Math 1.  I am also the Beta Club Sponsor at WHHS.
