Mrs. Currin worked as a kindergarten teacher at Gentry Primary in Erwin before coming to Highland Elementary School in 2014. She graduated magna cum laude from N.C. State University and has a NC teacher’s license in elementary and middle school education. She worked as a trainer in the judicial branch of NC state government for 13 years. Mrs. Currin is about to begin her 7th year teaching 2nd grade at Highland, and her ninth year teaching elementary school. She was a stay-at-home mom for ten years, raising her daughter, Amelia, who graduated from Sweet Briar College in Virginia in 2019. Her son, Noah, is a sophomore at Appalachian State University. She loves her pet Jack Russell dogs: Batman, Scarlet and H.G. Wells. Mrs. Currin and her husband, Derek, love to host murder mystery dinners; study the culture and economics of the antebellum and post-Civil War South; and travel to NYC, Washington, D.C., Charleston, S.C.; and to London, England. She absolutely LOVES a cold, snowy winter day so she may sip coffee and read a good book!
