Eligibility Requirements

  •  Following are requirements for participation:

    (a) Parents must provide written documentation of insurance coverage for the students before they can participate.
    (b) Students must have a physical examination before participation (including practice).
    (c) Academics come first.  Students must pass three of the four core courses.
    (d) Students must be in attendance 85% of the previous semester.
    (e) Participation in an athletic event is not allowed if the student has been absent on the day of the event.
    (f) If a student is 15 years old on or before October 16 of the school year, he/she will not be allowed to participate in contests for athletics.

    Note:  Failure to adhere to school rules will result in removal from athletic teams by the administration or suspension from game(s). Middle and High School Athletics

    365-Day Rule

    Any student granted a voluntary reassignment from the school serving the attendance area in which the student resides shall not participate in athletic activities that come under the jurisdiction of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) and the State Board of Education for 365 days after the first approved transfer date; however, if it is later determined that athletic participation is a reason for the transfer request, the transfer may be revoked by the Superintendent.

    Participation in Athletics during Alternative School Assignment

    Students re-assigned to an alternative school setting (STAR Academy) will be considered ineligible to participate in extra-curricular school sponsored activities, including sports practice or play, until the student returns to a regular educational setting.
