Mrs. Marcia Dickens

Hello Boone Trail Pioneers!  My name is Marcia Dickens and I am a Reading Recovery teacher.  I live in the Boone Trail community with my husband, Jimmy, and my 2 daughters, Meredith and Madalyn, along with our dachshund doggy, Zolly Belle. Meredith teaches 3rd grade in Wake County and Madalyn is enrolled in the ADN program at CCCC and  has begun her journey to become a nurse. When I am not teaching I enjoy time with my family, beach trips to Topsail Island, spending time outdoors, and beekeeping.  I received my undergraduate and graduate degrees in education from Campbell University in Buies Creek, NC. This is my 28th year of teaching in Harnett County-10 years teaching 3rd and 4th grades and 18 years as a Reading Recovery Teacher.  I absolutely love my job!  Being a support to teachers and parents along with watching readers and writers grow and bloom is the best!

Reading Recovery is a highly effective short-term intervention of one-to-one teaching for the lowest-achieving first graders---- the students who are not catching on to the complex set of concepts that make reading and writing possible. The intervention is most effective when it is a supplement to good classroom teaching. The goal of Reading Recovery is to greatly reduce the number of first grade students who have substantial difficulties learning to read and write and to reduce the cost of these learners to educational systems.
