Welcome to my school webpage!

My name is Mr. Thompson.  I graduated from ECU with a teaching degree in 1999, and this is my 23rd school year of teaching.  I have taught at the Elementary, Middle, and High School levels, I have taught all subjects, including EC. 

I believe that every student can do well in school, and in life, if two things are learned:

1. The student has learned how to read, understand what is read, and is able to correctly answer questions about what was read.

2. The student has learned how to follow directions.

I am teaching 5^th grade this year, self-contained class, all core subject areas.  Besides paying attention in class, and completing homework, students must be able to read well to solve the EOG test questions – because even many of the math questions are word problems.  Studies show that the best way to become a good reader is to read, and to read a variety of texts.  Please be sure that your student reads at least 30 minutes a day. Find material you both are interested in and share the reading experience!
