About Me:

Hi! Welcome to my OCS classroom! I am Mrs. Smith. This is my 4th year teaching. I taught Middle School Spanish in Onslow County in 2005-2006 until I moved to TX. I came back to NC in 2013 (Onslow County) and moved to Harnett County in 2016. My husband got out of the Marine Corps and joined the civilian world on Fort Bragg. I knew I wanted to get back into the teaching profession when I was on a camping trip with my children. I just love seeing children's faces light up when learning is occuring. Exceptional Children hold a near and dear place in my heart. I have grown up in the EC world. My youngest brother has Down Syndrome and Autism. While I was growing up, my mother was actively involved in helping other parents navigate through the EC waters. I have 6 children, and two of my children are on the Autism spectrum as well. I strongly believe that all children when given the opportunity can become successful.

Some fun facts about me:

I'm a runner! I have now completed 4 ultra marathons, 5 full marathons, and 13 half marathons. Running is a huge passion of mine. I'm an Ainsley Angel volunteer in which I run pushing a person with a disability so they may experience what it is like crossing the finish line. I'm currently training for a 100 miler in March. I have also travelled extensively throughout the U.S., Central America, and South America. I studied women's rights in Honduras during graduate school and lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina for 6 months studying politics and law.
