Mrs. Heather Dorman

Welcome to the 3rd Grade!!!

Parents and Students,

I am very excited about the opportunity to be your child's teacher this year. Let me tell you a little about our classroom. We have a Cactus and Llama themed classroom with many flexible seating options. Our class motto will be "we stick together". I believe in creating a classroom environment where students are excited about learning and where they will thrive and feel safe. My goal is to help students learn to the best of their abilities and help them become more independent. Third Grade is an important milestone in an elementary student's life. This will be the first year that your student receives numerical grades as well as the first year of EOGs. We will master many skills throughout the year. You will be amazed to see your student mature and grow. My hope is that I will cultivate the excitement of learning in all my students along with promote confidence as they grow.  I feel it is very important to have open communication between home and school. I will use a variety of communication options to talk with parents, such as classdojo, email, and weekly newsletters. Welcome to the Cactus Llama Class.

This is my 4th year at Erwin Elementary but my 6th year in education. As a child I grew up in the city of Dunn and I am a local Harnett County Resident.  I attended elementary school at Harnett Primary, middle school at Dunn Middle, and high school at Triton. I graduated from high school in 2002. I attended Barton College and pursued a degree in Social Work and played college tennis. I graduated from college in 2006 with a Bachelor's of Art in Social Work. I worked for many years in various roles in the field of child development. I later went to college to pursue my Masters in Education. In May of 2020, I graduated with my Master's Degree in Elementary Education from Grand Canyon University. I look forward to continuing to grow academically and educationally as my love for education continues in my career.

I am happily married to my high school sweetheart, Alex and we have been married for 15 years. I also have two children, Bailey and Gunner.  Our family loves spending time being outdoors hiking, gardening, camping, and fishing. We are very active at our church and within our community.

I love photography, cactus and llama items, hotamales candy, and French bulldogs.

I look forward to meeting all my new students and being your child's teacher this year. We have such a wonderful community and school and I feel very blessed to be apart of it.
