As an artist I believe the skills learned in art class are transferable and can improve all other aspects of life. Art elevates learning in a way that requires students to use critical thinking to problem solve situations creatively. When students tackle their subject matter in innovative ways this increases confidence and self efficacy.  Art is so important for students, it allows them to build the skills necessary to succeed. They learn from experience and art requires experimenting with unfamiliar subject matters. Art education encourages students to take risks which they might not be permitted to do in other subjects, this fosters character development and influences pursuits of exploration.

This semester-long course was designed to introduce students to several artistic processes. We will study different media, art history, and art criticism. Through completion of projects and assignments students will become familiar with principles and elements of design. Projects will include experimenting with various media, processes, and technique building. Students will be encouraged to use visual arts as a means of self expression. Students will be held to the expectation of accountability regarding attendance to meet project and assignments deadlines. My set rubric for grading is based on the 5 C's of art: Composition, Creativity, Concept, Craftsmanship, and Completion.

I am an advocate for your students academic journey & their personal growth through out their time at HCHS!
