I was born into a household of educators on August 17, 1989 to two wonderful parents and an older brother. My mother was an elementary
teacher and my father was a middle school football and basketball coach. My grandmother was also an elementary teacher.I have always loved music and singing for as long as I can remember. My mother said that I began singing as soon as I started talking. Both of my parents are singers as well as other family members. I am a member of Mt. Pisgah Lee Original Free Will Baptist Church where my mother allowed me to join the choir. Throughout middle and high school I was a member of the chorus. Each year of high school, I was chosen to perform with the All State Choir. Also during my high school years, I discovered that I had an excellent rapport with younger children. I started going to work with my grandmother at a Montessori Child Care Center where I was instructed to read stories to
the children before naptime and comfort children that were “fighting” sleep. The love of children began to blossom even more as I was eventually asked to help tutor the children in their afterschool program. Children would come to me just to talk and express their feelings and at times just to have someone to listen to them. After graduating from high school, I was accepted in Winston Salem State University with a major in Music and a concentration in Voice. During my sophomore year, we went to Carnegie Hall in New York City to sing. That was truly a wonderful experience. After three years at WSSU, I realized that I really missed being with children and especially children with any issues that keep them from being successful in the classroom. I transferred to North Carolina Central University and I graduated in 2018 with a B.S. Degree in Behavioral and Social Sciences and a minor in Music. My teaching philosophy is that every child can learn and has a right to have the best possible education. I feel that it is my responsibility to help every child that I come in contact with reach their highest level of education. It is my responsibility to explore all avenues in order to help each child reach their fullest potential. I want my classroom to be open and inviting. I want my students to feel free enough to ask questions and to voice their opinions in a polite manner. My classroom is disciplined and calm.
