Mrs. Emily Koenig
My name is Mrs. Emily Koenig (Kay-Nig), but you can call me Mrs.K! Excuse my northern accent and mannerisms as I was born in the great state of Wisconsin! My family moved around to Missouri, and finally settled in North Carolina! I received a bachelor's degree in Communication (minors in English and Psychology) at Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri. After I graduated, I joined Teach for America and began teaching in North Carolina. I have been teaching for 8 years! I first started as a special education teacher (CCR for five and a half years, and the SED for half a year), but have been in General education for 2! I have learned a lot about not only the academic needs of students but also their emotional needs. This year, I am a 4th-grade general education teacher here at South Harnett Elementary School. I hope to instill a sense of trust, comfort, and responsibility among our learners. My channels of communication are always open to both parents and students! It takes a community!
Fun facts about me:
I have 2 dogs but have owned guinea pigs, cats, and a hedgehog.
I was a radio DJ for 2 years in college and started a program called Nerd Heard.
I was part of several organizations in college including, but not limited to, Lambda Pi Eta and Phi Sigma Pi.
I have published psychological studies and presented them at the American Psychological Association's conference in Chicago.
I was part of Teach for America from 2015-2018, and am now an alumnus of the organization.
