Ms. Ashley Lewis

Attention: Parents and Students – My name is Ms. Lewis and I am the new 8th Grade Math Teacher. I am thrilled to be a part of the Overhills family and cannot wait to share my expertise with you all. I know this past year has been very overwhelming without having a teacher. I want each and every one of you to know I am here to support you, guide you, and overall help you succeed to the next level. I don’t want to change much, you all are in a routine already, but I do want to let you all know my expectations and ask of your patience as we begin this new journey together.

First and foremost, I want to encourage consistency. I know that some may believe it is difficult to study math virtually. I promise I am thinking of ways to make this process as painless as possible. I want to know your learning style so that I can best serve and teach you. Please continue to stay consisted with logging in each day and completing your work. We all have to hold each other accountable. We can do this, together!

Every Wednesday will be quiz day for the students. This will allow me to know if our students are ready to progress to the next lesson. Wednesday will also be the designated make up day to make sure our children are staying up to date on his or her assignments for this Quarter.

If your child is having problems or is unable to complete his or her work, they are to email me for accommodations at that time. Otherwise, a zero grade will be given for that assignment and placed in PowerSchool.

Let me state, I have no control or do not have any knowledge of the grades for the previous quarters. I can direct your child to the person they need to speak with about those grades. This quarter, students will be provided with the opportunity to still submit assignment they did not turn in. I will provide students with a date in which this work needs to be completed. Once the grade is in PowerSchool, I may or may not be able to go back and change that grade. This will allow me more time to continue grading current assignments, keeping students’ grades up to date, providing students with feedback and one on one virtual google meet help sessions.

If your child needs additional assistance, myself along with Dr. Evans will continue to provide them with help. Please do not hesitate to email me to set up a time for a smaller google meet session during excel, intervention time or after school.  Dr. Evans will continue providing students with virtual after school tutoring.  Student must email me or Dr. Evans to participate or receive small one on one assistance.

Parents also please take the opportunity to have your child open assignments and show you the actual assignments they submitted. Some students are submitting blank assignments just to show their parents the submit button.  Please also ensure your child is completing 90 minutes and 3 lessons of iReady math each week. In math your child completes: independent practice assignment the must complete during class (google meet live), Discovery Education, assigned work in Google Classroom.  If your child misses a Google Meet live assignment, a make-up day is provided.  Students will always be given a makeup day to catch up on Google Meet live assignments and assessments. It is the student’s responsibility to make sure they attend make up sessions. I will post make-up days on Google Classroom, remind students in google meet live sessions and/or email students makeup dates, as well.

Thank you and I look forward to working with you and your child.
