Degrees and Certifications:
Athletes, Parents, and Family Members:
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and to give you a little information about my experience, my role at Harnett Central High School, and our injury management protocols.
Some of you may have had experiences with other trainers but may not understand or know what our credentials are. Athletic trainers (ATs) are highly qualified, multi-skilled health care professionals who render service or treatment, under the direction of or in collaboration with a physician, in accordance with their education, training and the state's statutes, rules and regulations. As a part of the health care team, services provided by athletic trainers include primary care, injury and illness prevention, wellness promotion and education, emergent care, examination and clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions.
My name is Carley Brown, I am a certified and licensed athletic trainer in the state of North Carolina. I have been practicing as certified athletic trainer since graduating college in 2016. I received my Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from Barton College where I graduated with honors. During my time as an athletic training student, I completed clinical rotations with Barton College Athletics, North Carolina State University, North Carolina Wesleyan College and Hunt High School. Prior to staring at Harnett Central in January of 2021, I was the head athletic trainer at Wake Christian Academy for 4 years. At WCA, I also led a sports medicine program for students. In addition to working at Wake Christian, I also supplied supplemental coverage for North Carolina FC Men, North Carolina Courage, Lazers Soccer Club, and several other organizations. Of all levels of sports
participation, the high school setting is my favorite to work in!
As the Athletic Trainer at Harnett Central, my role is to help identify, manage, and educate athletes, parents and staff about any injury that may occur. This includes evaluating for potential injuries/illnesses or risk factors that would increase their risk of injury/illness. I would then design and implement an appropriate treatment program (flexibility, strength, cardiovascular fitness, nutrition) to reduce the risk of injury and illness. It is my goal to have all athletes back in action as soon as it is safely possible.
On this page you will find the injury protocols Harnett Central follows, along with a few physicians that I would recommend, however you are free to choose whichever physician you wish your athlete to see. The physicians that I am recommending, however, are doctors with whom I have established lines of communication. Communication between all health care providers is essential. Whichever physician you choose to see your athlete, please be aware that I need to be informed of this choice. Any time your athlete sees a physician, it is essential that I be kept “in the loop” regarding the disposition of that injury, preferably with written instructions from the physician.
ANY TIME YOUR ATHLETE SEES A PHYSICIAN BECAUSE OF AN INJURY OR ILLNESS, WRITTEN CLEARANCE WILL BE REQUIRED FOR THEM TO RETURN TO ACTIVITY. THIS MUST INCLUDE A SPECIFIC DIAGNOSIS, LIMITATIONS, AND DATE FOR RETURN.
Please feel free to contact me any time you have any questions or concerns regarding an injury!
