• WHO SHOULD APPLY TO ATTEND THE VIRTUAL ACADEMY?

Any student who resides in Harnett County and who will be in Kindergarten through the 12th grade may apply to attend.  All students who apply will be screened in order to determine acceptance.  Students and families should demonstrate the desire for a home learning environment, exceptional motivation, and the need for a flexible schedule.

    WHAT IS THE SELECTION PROCESS?

Students will be screened prior to placement at HVA.  Spots at the Virtual Academy are limited.  If there are more qualified applicants than available spaces, students will be placed on a waiting list.  The following criteria will be reviewed during the screening process:  grades, attendance, behavior, academic history, previous test scores, parent support/learning coach availability, need for a flexible learning environment, medical needs, and motivation to be successful in a virtual environment.

IF A STUDENT HAS AN IEP, 504, or LEP PLAN, CAN THEY APPLY TO ATTEND THE VIRTUAL ACADEMY?

Yes, students with an IEP, 504, or LEP plan can attend HVA. Support and services will be determined on a case-by-case basis by the team.  Accommodations will be followed by the Online School.

    WHAT COURSES WILL BE OFFERED?

Instruction at the Virtual Academy aligns with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study.  All courses will be taught by North Carolina certified teachers.  High school students will have the opportunity to take Honors, Advanced Placement (AP), and CCP courses.

    WILL STATE ASSESSMENTS BE REQUIRED?

Students enrolled in the Virtual Academy will be required to participate in state-mandated standardized testing in all applicable grade levels and content areas.
