I have been working in Harnett County Schools in various capacities since the late 90's, but began teaching in 2014 after I graduated from East Carolina University with a degree in Special Education and a concentration in reading. I worked at Highland Elementary as the receptionist in 2002, and then at WHHS in 2004 (first as the receptionist and cheer coach, and then SPED teacher). This is my first year at OHS, and I love the atmosphere and energy here. I am married with 3 beautiful daughters who all graduated from WHHS (2004, 2006, and 2016) and 7 wonderful grandchildren. We have 4 dogs and reside in Lillington.
I was hired as the Special Populations Coordinator/ Student Advocate in 2021, and I am so excited about what I can bring to the students in CTE classes. This role allows me to assist students among various populations/demographics to find their own passion and path. CTE is full of opportunities for students to explore their field of interest. Mine is a shared position with WHHS, but I can be reached via email anytime at dgunter@harnett.k12.nc.us.
My mantra is "Who can I help today?", and if I can help you or your student, please contact me.
