Post Baccalaureate Teacher Certificate- Special Education k-12 Bachelor of Science - Early Childhood Education and Leadership: emphasis on special education and psychology

Mrs. Kirsten Sehen

Hello!  My name is Kirsten Sehen.  I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area of California and moved out to North Carolina in the summer of 2016.  My husband is in the military and that is how we ended up here, near Fort Bragg.  I have one son, who will be in the 5th grade Dual Immersion program here at DES.  We also have a few pets at home; 2 dogs and 2 cats.

I currently have a BS in Early Childhood Education & Leadership with an emphasis on Special Education and Psychology.  Prior to moving to North Carolina, I was a Pre-K teacher at inclusion and special education schools.  I really enjoyed being a part of children's growth and development, but wanted to feel like I was able to do more.  Once I moved to NC, I applied for a position within HCS.  I was offered the role of Exceptional Children Cross Categorical Resource (EC CCR), a special education pull-out teaching position, and have never been happier with my teaching career.  It is so rewarding to be a part of the new connections these students work so hard to make.  I have also since become the Lead EC Teacher at my school.   I was considered to be a Licensed Lateral Entry Special Education Teacher, but I completed appropriate coursework at ECU to receive my continual Special Education Teaching License.  The 2022-2023 school year will be my fifth full teaching year in Harnett County Schools and we are excited to see what changes come from bringing together the teachers, students, and families of Harnett Primary and Wayne Avenue for the new Dunn Elementary!
