Ms. Melissa Helton

I have been teaching at Lillington-Shawtown since 2006.  I started teaching first grade and remained there for 4 years. Then I moved to second grade where I have remained. Second grade is a year of growth and discovery that I am grateful to be a part of with my students.

I received my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from North Carolina Wesleyan College in May of 1990.  I received my Master's Degree in Elementary Education from Campbell University in May 2006.  I was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an honors society for educators, while attending Campbell University.

Some of the committees and teams I have been a part of over the years include Responsiveness to Instruction (RTI), action research team for the Rehearsed Reading Model, School Improvement Team, PTO as a parent and a teacher, and the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) team.

Students learn best when engaged in fun and interesting activities.  My classroom has always been a collaborative, game filled space for learning.  Your child's health and education will be considered in each activity we are able to do this year.
